Introduction:
Chhindwara is located at 22°04′N 78°56′E22.07°N 78.93°E with an average elevation of 675 metres (2,215ft). Chhindwara is situated on the Bodri Stream, a tributary of the Kulbehra River and stands picturesquely on the open Satpura plateau flanked by ranges of low hills. The climate is very salubrious and pleasant. Chhindwara is known for the richness of its flora and fauna. Hundreds of important medicinal plants grow naturally in the forest of this district. Tamia hills and Patalkot are known as a treasure of medicinal plants in Satpura plateau.Centre for Forestry Research and Human Resource Development, Chhindwara came into existence on 30th March 1995. It was declared as a Satellite Centre of Tropical Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur on 3rd January 1996.
Mandate:
A. Research:
1- Eco-restoration of Vindhyan, Satpura and Maikal hills and Western Ghats.
2- Research and demonstration in agroforestry models.
3- Research in non-wood forest products
4- Identification of seed production areas and plus trees, establishment of seed orchards; and production of quality planting material of selected species for improving forest productivity.
5- Provenance trials of teak, bamboo, neem, sissoo, safed siris etc
6- Research on biofertilizers and biopesticides.

1- HRD by providing trainings to Farmers/SFDs/NGOs/SHGs
